San Antonio’s Hidden Jewel

San Antonio has a secret! After being closed for several years for reconditioning and maintenance, the Japanese Tea Gardens reopened in 2009.
The Tea Gardens are a true hidden jewel in San Antonio. One of many actually, but let’s focus on this one. The gardens are located near the San Antonio Zoo, just north of the downtown area. Upon entering the Tea Gardens, you feel as if you have entered a secret hidden valley of lush greenery, amazing landscapes, and fabulous water features. Add to that the wondrous masonry and rock formations and you have a setting like none other in San Antonio or all of South Texas for that matter.
This particular bride, Kristen Hilburn, has a special connection to the Japanese Tea Gardens. Her great-great grandfather was involved in building the original rock work and features in the Japanese Tea Gardens. How cool is that?
So, I made sure that we captured parts of the Tea Garden in her 16×20 bridal portrait that she will be displaying at her wedding reception in April. She can pass this on to her children and grandchildren with the attached story and memory of her family’s heritage and the Japanese Tea Gardens.
