Comedy is…well funny!

The San Antonio area ushered in it’s latest comedy club, Laugh Out Loud, in the last quarter of 2009. LOL is the sister club of the San Antonio fixture, River City Comedy Club in the Riverwalk Mall.  It was a great honor to be asked to photograph the grand opening.

The opening act included Richard Lewis and San Antonio native, Jade Esteban Estrada. The comedian Richard Lewis quipped at the ribbon cutting about being a Jewish guy in San Antonio cutting a ribbon with a giant pair of ribbon wound hedge trimmers. Good times.

I wasn’t permitted to photograph Richard Lewis performing, as contractually, he doesn’t allow that sort of thing. BUT I had a blast photographing Jade’s act. Jade had the priveledge of being the first performing act on the first Friday night that the club was open. I’m sure 25 years from now, when the club is still going strong and considered an old fixture in San Antonio, he will look back on the night with much pride!

use of his hands, body, eyes, and facial expressions.The stage lighting and cool metal bead curtains behind the stage made for some interesting lighting.

The post processing that I did here on Jade’s portrait gives it a different kind of look. You can click on the photo for a larger view of the portrait and see the “Norman Rockwell” feel that his facial and skin tones and textures have.
